Crops are Waking Up

While spring is not technically here yet, you should take a look around and you could have fooled me.  Buds on the filbert (hazelnut) trees are coming to life.

The swiss chard is started to perk up after winter and head for the sky.  These plants will get up to 7 feet tall by the time we harvest!

And the inevitable battle with the mud has started.  Matt had a little trouble while out spraying, so he called in the big guns to come pull him out (yeah I mean me!).

 Happy farming and happy Friday!!

Getting back in the Field

I didn’t start farming because I had to. I didn’t start farming because I felt forced to take the job offer my dad gave me 10 years ago. I started farming because I actually really love to farm. I love the outdoors part, I love the seasonality, I love the people in
the industry, I love the crops, you get the point here.

And today I am loving it a lot. Because today for the first time in a long time I don’t have a kid in the car seat, front pack or in my arms while I try to get something done. Today I just get to farm and it’s beautiful, sunny and perfect!

So here’s my smile as I’m jumping on the fertilizer buggy. Knowing that I get to see those kiddos soon, but for now I get to be a farmer!

Entertaining a Toddler at the Farm

Step 1: Take him straight to the bolt bins.

Step 2: Grab nuts and bolts of all sizes.

Step 3: Find some equipment to “work on”

Step 4: Be sure to mention to the shop guys that the nut and bolt bin labels can no longer be trusted!

Happy Friday!
