Spring Wheat Fertilizing

I know that I’ve been posting mostly crop pictures on Fridays, but this time of year things are growing so fast and changing all the time that it’s so cool to me to see all the progress!!  Hope you’re all not getting too bored, I’m sure something will break soon and I can post some pics of that haha! (knock on wood!)2013-04-11_11-14-35_780Got some spring wheat fertilized yesterday!

2013-04-11_11-14-39_321This is my very “high tech” console that shows me how much I’m getting on, and my speed.

2013-04-11_11-14-44_338This is my slightly more high tech guidance screen that shows me where I’ve been and where I need to drive to get the best coverage.

2013-04-11_11-15-02_899Here’s another “high tech” item…a rear view mirror so I can glance back and see how much fertilizer I have in the tank.

2013-04-11_11-15-10_336You can see the fertilizer (small white granules) flying out the sides here behind me!

2013-04-11_17-02-07_326Pretty nice day to be out in the growing wheat fields!  It won’t be long before they start to get a much darker green and grow, and grow, and grow!

2013-04-11_17-03-30_881What a good day to be a farmer!

One Winter Project Done

I mentioned awhile ago that one of our winter projects was fixing up the old D2 Caterpillar.  Well it’s finally all finished up…here are some before and after pics!  This machine has a great history and goes hand in hand with why I’m a third generation farmer, more on this to come in a few weeks!  Until then…Here’s to you Grandpa Carl, it was always said that your blood ran cat yellow!

On the 8th Day…God Made a Farmer

Watching the intense Super Bowl game yesterday was one thing, but seeing the commercial from Dodge using Paul Harvey’s speech “Farmer” was a definite highlight.  I’m a sentimental person by nature, and watching this commercial with his famous words capturing all that my family has lived for in the past, and what I hope to carry on in my own legacy; it truly made me stop in my tracks and take note.

Although so many who are generations from the farm may not understand what this all means, and how much truth there is in these words, please take note that we “farmers” are still out there.  And it’s still true…

God had to have somebody willing to ride the ruts at double speed to get the hay in ahead of the rain clouds and yet stop in mid-field and race to help when he sees the first smoke from a neighbor’s place. So God made a farmer.

Somebody who’d bale a family together with the soft strong bonds of sharing, who would laugh and then sigh, and then reply, with smiling eyes, when his son says he wants to spend his life “doing what dad does.” So God made a farmer.

If you missed it, here it is!

Here is the full version, also very good!

Thank you Dodge for your tribute to all the farmers who work hard everyday!! I’m still a Ford girl at heart, but you may have gained a few points in my book yesterday!
