Almost Spring Farm Update

It’s been a bit political around my blog lately. But as it turns out we have been doing a lot of farming too. The weather has been cooperating with a good mix of rain and sun.

We got our first application of fertilizer out on the grass seed. We are getting ready to do some spring planting, and even got a little tall fescue in the ground. We have been out in the orchards pruning, removing dead or sick trees and also getting ready for the trees to start bud break.

As a mom and farmer it comes with its own challenges. Last week I was home most of the week while the sun shined with sick kiddos. These kids go stir crazy so we headed out for a small adventure. Fresh air and “Frowing Wocks” always helps everyone’s spirits!

This spring-ish weather makes us all start to get antsy to get outside and be done with “winter”. And soon enough it will be spring. As a farmer though one thing I’ve learned is patience; turns out no matter how hard you try, you can’t push Mother Nature.

Timber Unity Rally February 6th….See you there!!!

****ALERT: There are rumors going around that “Ag is exempt” from the Cap-and-Trade legislation. That is much too broad and not accurate.

The greater “Ag” is NOT exempt. They are not a “regulated entity”, but that doesn’t mean they don’t pay all the increases in energy, which is the reason why we disagree with this legislation.****

This coming Thursday, February 6th is another Timber Unity Rally at the Capitol.  This rally is bringing together everyone; loggers, truckers, farmers, ranchers, working class people, rural folks, and generally anyone against cap and trade legislation!Details can be found at www.timberunity-convoy.com.

I posted a quick video on why this effects every single Oregonian!  Check it out here…..

Hope to see you Thursday!!

Hazelnut Harvest 2019

We are on the homestretch of harvest for filberts, also known as hazelnuts. The weather is changing into fall here on Oregon, and while we have had pretty good weather this harvest, I’m sort of ready for the rain.

Here is a video of me harvesting a younger orchard of Jefferson hazelnuts.

Right now you can buy our hazelnuts in all Wilco Farm Stores, and come November in Albertson/Safeway and Bi-Mart! Oregon orchards is the brand and here are my personal favorite ones!!!

They are soooooooo good!!

This also wraps up harvest for all our crops here on the farm. We have a little more ground to work but other than that we will be starting to put things away for the winter.

It’s always a good feeling to wrap up another year on the farm!
